Updates
Welcome to the first issue of The Resilient Kids Space.
It's good to have you here.
The days seem so very long, not just because of the shortness of light. How are you getting on? Roll on Spring and sunshine to make lockdown life more bearable. And note to all, do step outside, even in the miserable rain, as the light still reaches our skin through the dim and tops up our Vitamin D.
Most of us could do with a good laugh at the moment would you agree? I've included a random joke in this issue, as the kids appreciate them in my virtual wellness sessions.
Richard Frank's mum parodies are a good giggle too, click to view him via the little Facebook link just below. There's lots of links as you go.
In The News
Random News Clippings
This section of the newsletter contains links that I clip relating to raising resilient kids and notes for parents too.
You may like to begin with a read of this "TES" article:
"The curriculum we are supposedly testing and assessing children on was designed for a time when there was no pandemic, no blended or online teaching and learning. Currently, all I see is people going crazy over what's being lost, and trying to shoehorn the non-pandemic curriculum into a totally different landscape."
What do You LOVE to do?
In this article over on LinkedIn I shared how I turned my LOVE of working with kids into an organically growing business.
Playlist
Express Yourself
This month's playlist was inspired by Children's Mental Health Awareness Week's theme "Express Yourself"
Remember to take regular movement breaks throughout the day and dance along to these tunes with your kids too.
Magazine Ideas
Bananagrams
A family favourite of ours even with teenagers. We used to play it in pairs when the children were younger as they needed more support - it was the being together, the process of playing and having fun rather than the outcome that we all enjoyed. It's a great one to take away on holidays too, last year we took it with us camping in Scotland. I made this little video reel over on the Resilient_KIds Instagram page!
Book Recommendations
Recommended reads: ages 8–10 | Books | The Guardian
One thing we've always splashed out in our home is books. Personally, I'm a bit of a book swapper and charity shopper whilst my husband loves staring at books in stores. I guess our love of reading has influenced our teenager's book tendencies too when they aren't on tech that is. Looking ahead, I'd love to invite readers of these newsletters to send me in their book reviews for children's books that I can include in this section, please do email your suggestions.
"A Girl's Guide To Being Fearless"
Earlier this week, I won this book "A Girl's Guide To Being Fearless" in a Twitter competition. I'll read it and review it here soon. Looks good, will see if my teenage daughter will take it a peek too.

One Mum At A Time
Parenting Our Emotions
Sometimes we have to be the parent of our emotions. They are like our children too. It was great to catch up with my good friend Julia Hayden in Berlin. She is a therapist who works with parents and children, she is known as "The Body Whisperer". We spoke about many things including "Allowing Our Emotions"

A Monthly Free Gathering Space For Parents
"I found the resilient parenting group, incredibly helpful and supportive. As a dad of two daughters, dealing with everything from friendships, to household chores, to getting a goods nights sleep, the ideas and shares in the group, were useful to both me and to my family. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn and share the parenting journey with others" Tom Watson
And Finally
Resilient Kids
As parents it’s easy to put our children’s mental health and wellness first and forget to take care of our own. What simple practical tip could you share to help give a little well-being nudge to yourself and other parents?
